November Already!

Day 16

Cannot believe November is here already!  Emma had a good day today with a few bumps along the way.  Her feeds were increased to 3.5 mL/hour, which is "full feeds" for her age/weight.  She is doing very well with them, which is great - hopefully she'll really start gaining weight soon!  She is up to 550 grams now (about 1 pound, 3 ounces), compared to her birth weight of 530 grams.  She was also measured today (this is done once a week on Mondays, whereas her weight is measured every night) and she is about 32 cm (about 12.6 inches) long, compared to her birth length of 29.5 cm (about 11.6 inches).  So things are moving in the right direction!

She has had a couple of bradycardia spells, which is a slowing down of the heart rate.  It is also common in preemies, but still causes her Mommy and Daddy to get some more gray hairs!  But it's all part of the process of her growing and getting stronger.  She gets very fussy when the nurses handle her (i.e., take her vitals or do any other testing or moving her around), but once she's on her tummy and being left alone, she's happy as a clam.  That girl knows what she likes and isn't afraid to let you know it!

Mom was able to kangaroo her (hold her skin to skin) again today which always means a good day.  Even though Emma may get fussy when she's handled, once she's all snuggled in with Mom or Dad she is very happy and quiet.

After the kangaroo time, Emma was tucked into some new blankies that Mom and Dad got for her this weekend.  She was very happy =)
